From now on, the Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) of the area will be taking care of maintenance of apartments and societies. This decision has been taken by the senior town planner to streamline the civic amenities in newly-constructed apartments.
Majority of the Residents Welfare Associations have welcomed the move and termed it as the best-ever decision taken by the authorities. They are of the view that at least people, who are shifting in new societies, would not have to struggle for basic facilities.
According to the decision, all rights of builders/colonisers regarding maintenance of the societies/apartments will be given to the RWA body as soon as the construction gets over.
There have been a lot of maintenance issues between residents and builders in almost all the societies. People had also come on roads to protest against the ill-maintenance of the townships by builders. Despite soaring maintenance charges, the services have not been up-to-the-mark.
"We face several difficulties to get a tiny problem resolved. This was repeatedly discussed with STP RK Singh. Recently, he confirmed that the RWAs will soon be handling the maintenance of societies. But this will be applicable only on new societies," said Shyam Soni, president, SLRWA.
In case, any builder does not obey the rules, RWA may complain to the senior town planner or District Town and Country Planning Department director. Legal action would be taken against him.
Senior town planner RK Singh said, "As per new guidelines of District Town and Country Planning Department, the colonisers will have to handover the maintenance of apartments to their RWAs. If the construction work is divided into several phases, the maintenance process will also proceed accordingly."
Earlier, many societies had protested against their builders for not maintaining roads, sewers, parks, streetlights, etc, which are the basic necessities for any residential area.
"We can approach our RWA at any time and they are more cooperative than the builders. We appreciate the decision of STP as now, there will be no confrontation on maintenance," said Sandeep Virmani, a resident.
If any builder does...
