New bridge to reach Greater Faridabad

To improve the road connectivity between Faridabad and the colonies being developed across the Agra Canal, known as Greater Faridabad, the Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has proposed a bridge that will ease congestion on the existing narrow bridges and also shorten the distance between the two major parts of the city.
Private developers and builders are carrying out mass- ive housing construction in the area across the Agra Canal. As per a conservative estimate, private developers are building over 60,000 housing units in Greater Faridabad for which HUDA is developing the civic infrastructure. The estimated population, five years from now, will not be less than two lakh.

HUDA superintending engineer S. K. Singhal, said in that in view of the development that will take place across the Agra Canal in the years to come, there is a dire need to have more bridges linking the two parts of Faridabad in the near future.

“The state government has already approved a four-lane bridge linking Sectors 2 and 64.
The Haryana Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation will construct the bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department will execute the construction of the bridge,“ said Singhal.

He said there is also a proposal to build one more bridge with at least four lanes to improve connectivity between the two parts of the city.

“The site is yet to be identified. Our primary focus is to reduce the distance between the two sides of the canal for the maximum number of people,“ he said.

The location of the bridge will depend on the density of the population in the colonies across the canal. They will be provided a convenient link. It will also be ensured that the link roads to the Delhi-Mathura Road can handle the volume of traffic coming from the eastern direction.

Singhal said that 11 acres of land for developing roads in the area across the Agra Canal has been earmarked for acquisition and the estimates are being prepared for developing them.

Meanwhile, awards for acquisition of land are being issued, he added.
