Work on the 13.875-km Badarpur-Faridabad metro rail link got the much-needed boost with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Haryana government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) here on Monday.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and DMRC MD Mangu Singh at Gymkhana Club, Sector 15.

Coming up at a cost of R2,494 crore with nine stations, Badarpur-YMCA chowk metro line is scheduled to be commissioned in 2014.

Hooda urged Singh to speed up the work and ensure the project is completed before 2014.

"For us the work has started from today", the DMRC MD said, adding that the MoU was an important step towards making the extension of the metro link to Faridabad a reality.

Chief minister Hooda said metro connectivity up to YMCA Chowk in Faridabad will be further extended to Ballabgarh for which he has ordered the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR). He said his government wants Faridabad to get back its lost glory with the introduction of a slew of development projects such as metro. "Neharpar area in Faridabad will also be connected with metro on public private partnership basis," the Haryana chief minister said.
He pointed that over 92,000 people commute to Delhi from Gurgaon through metro on a daily basis.

"Lakhs of people from Faridabad will benefit in the same way," he added.

The 13.8-km metro line from Badarpur to Faridabad's YMCA chowk will be elevated.

Why Public Private Partnership for Metro to Greater Faridabad? We have already seen failure of PPP model in Greater Faridabad where number of private colonizers were almost ready with flats/plots in 2010 and public player (Govt.) was sleeping and did criminal negligence in ignoring development inspite of collecting huge EDC.

Metro should be funded by Govt. as it has collected EDC (original + enhanced) of around Rs 3 lakh per person from each home buyer in Greater Faridabad amounting to around Rs 1500 crores and approved budget only of Rs 450 crores for development of Greater Faridabad. Funding by Govt. will also ensure that Metro is connected to all 15 sectors on equitable basis NOT inclined towards one dominant builder (DLF) as it is happening in Gurgaon.

I don't see anything positive this news. The only thing it shows yet another strategy by Builder-Politicians nexus to attract the gullible investors like us.
If Govt was really serious then why NeharPar Development is not happening at the pace as it should be. Secondly I don't see any logic behind running two Metro lines parallely ( NH2 and Bypass) having a distance of not more than 2 Kms.
This news just gives all the Builders another point to Highlight and sell their worthless projects.

When (if at all) metro comes to G Fbd, it will be on bypass road. Hard to connect each and every sector or trying to connect on equitable basis will be very hard and unfeasable IMO.

Story Update : Tuesday, March 27, 2012 12:01 AM

I agree with kbg, a marketing ploy, it will be completed in 2025 -2030 even if they do it, it doesn't cost much to say something... they say these things to lure in gullible buyers so they can sell more and get their cut. We need more action and less claims...metro alone is not enough for development, we need clean, wide, well planned roads, trees, gardens, clean paths, dustbins, green areas, clean public toilets, NOT unauthorised shops and jhuggis blocking the roads, smelly drains, polluted canals and nallahs flowing in the middle of population , water logged smelly ponds, like it is now. People will have to constantly demand and fight for all these developments, leaders are mostly idiots and useless ( or rather selfish).

I don't see anything good in this "good news from Haryana Govt." as this is again a lolly pop as usual.
Though it was supposed to come by 2010, but due to corruption in govt. system, it is now extended to Dec'14, that means 3 more years from now.

This seems more a corporate / builder game, now they can sell their new projects easily on high rates.

Would want to know on suggested PPP model for metro connectivity for Gr. FBD, is this again coming on our back as burden of another EDC hike ?

Thanks

Public Private Partnership model funding does not come from EDC amount. It is a kind of joint venture between private player and Govt. who pool in with funds and resources required to complete project. Private player makes a big investment in developing infrastructure and when project is operational, gets revenue by collecting money from users. Highway Tolls that are mushrooming everywhere are product of PPP model. Please refer in wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-private_partnership
With regards to kbg (Kulbhshan) comments, I believe that Metro to Greater Faridabad will be greatly beneficial to residents as it will provide last mile connectivity. Let me give you my example, there are 2 metro stations (blue and green line) near to my home, one at a distance of 2 kms and other at a distance of 3.5 kms. Yet, I many times do not use Metro as reaching there is a hassle. Also, at my office in Gurgaon at DLF cyber city, metro station is 2.5 kms away at Sikandarpur/Guru Dronacharya but most of office going people still do not use Metro as going/reaching from station to office is a pain. That is why Rapid Metro construction in Gurgaon on PPP model is in full swing to provide last mile connectivity. Once that is operational metro will be 500m away. But, that leave the point why Govt. is not funding Metro in Greater Faridabad in spite of having huge EDC funds. Because if Govt. funding is there, commuting will be much cheaper.
