HUDA seeks upkeep charges for new sectors

In a letter to the chief administrator in Chandigarh, the HUDA administrator has sought that maintenance charges for sectors 58 to 115 be paid to HUDA

GURGAON: HUDA administrator Anita Yadav has sought a new policy for collecting maintenance charges from the new sectors 58-115 and that the handing over of maintenance services of all old sectors from 1 to 57 to the MCG be expedited.

In a letter to the chief administrator in Chandigarh, the HUDA administrator has sought that maintenance charges for sectors 58 to 115 be paid to HUDA in addition to property tax to the MCG, similar to how residents in colonizer areas have to pay the developer for maintenance.

Yadav, in her letter sent to chief administrator Brijendra Singh on Friday (of which TOI has a copy), claimed that after the initial allotment of residential sectors by HUDA, a huge expenditure was incurred for maintenance of public utility services like water supply, roads, sewerage and sanitation.

"HUDA has been spending crores on the maintenance of these sectors for the last 15-20 years. On the other hand, the MCG is charging house tax from residents of HUDA sectors since inception, but is not spending the same for maintenance of HUDA sectors. Rather, HUDA is being burdened with maintenance expenses," Yadav noted in her letter.

The letter also said that the old sectors from 1 to 57 be handed over to MCG at the earliest for maintenance purposes, so that HUDA can focus on development of the new sectors.

She, however, proposed that for the new sectors, a policy be framed by the government for levying of maintenance charges. "For the new sectors, a policy may be framed to take maintenance charges of Rs 200 to Rs 2,000 according to the size of the plot/building, with an annual increment of 10% for providing services to the allottees," she said in the letter.

When TOI contacted Yadav, she said, "HUDA has been bogged down by maintenance work of the old sectors to such an extent that it is affecting development work in the new sectors. Since the process of handing over old sectors to the MCG has already started, I have requested that this process be expedited and have suggested that a policy for levying maintenance charges be devised for the new sectors.
