Hindustan Times Correspondent reports:

The government on Thursday released a logo and a portal for the right to information law that came into force five years ago, promising the UPA would not push any amendment that weakens the law. Instead, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan, who launched
the logo on RTI and the RTI portal http://www.rtigateway.org.in with Shantanu Consul, Secretary (Personnel), said the government was considering doing away with the blanket exemption provided to security organisations.
Under this proposal, the government intends to amend the law to enable applicants to seek information on tenders and other non-sensitive information such as promotions.
"There has been no decision on the amendments…as and when a decision is taken, it would be to strengthen the law and not weaken it," he said.
Chavan said the administrative reforms commission recommendation to bar vexatious complaints had not been accepted by the government.
The minister said the department of personnel was also setting up a watchdog mechanism to enable people to point out Centre websites that did not implement the requirement of disclosures under the law.
