Three men posing as builders duped around 200 people of over Rs. 10 crore by promising them premium flats in Haryana's Sonipat, police said Thursday. The trio has been arrested.

According to police, the three were directors of Jindal Realcon Pvt. Ltd., a construction company which was setup in 2005 in north Delhi's Pitampura area.

The accused had no permissions from the authority to construct flats but still went ahead and made false promises to their customers that built flats would be made available within three years.

"They offered attractive and lucrative schemes on flats in a fake upcoming society named Jindal Green in Sonipat... the accused took payments from around 200 people since 2006 without having any license or approval from the authorities to build any society," a police official said.

After collecting over Rs.10 crore as advance payments, the accused shut down their office overnight and went underground.

Police started their investigation following a complaint by one of the victims and arrested the trio in Delhi. The accused had purchased a 13 acre piece of land in village Raipur in Sonipat from the money.

According to police, the trio are involved in a nother case of cheating wherein they duped a Delhi based builder of Rs. 4 crore.

The accused had taken the money on the pretext of refunding their investors but the amount was never paid to them.
