Good Steps: Proposed Amendments in Consumer Act aims for Speedy Justice, Banks, Unilateral agreements also in Ambit

Postby dheerajjain » Tue Jul 01, 2014 8:44 am

Today's (01-Jul-14)) Hindustan (Hindi) has very good article about proposed Amendments in Consumer Act:

Below are some of steps proposed:

- Without receipt also, complaint in Consumer Court can be filed
- Loan giving Banks also in ambit
- Terms of agreement between consumers and companies can also be challenged (that will be big step in challenging unilateral one sided builder buyer agreement)
- Agreement can't be cancelled by One Party without Consent of other Party
- Next date in Consumer Court should be given within 3 weeks (that will again be a big step since Consumer Courts are giving dates ranging from 3 months to 10 months)

Hope these amendments do not get stuck like Real Estate Regulatory Bill which has been in cold storage for 15 years.
