Fire Fighting Provisions in Apartments in Faridabad

Postby vineet » Fri Jul 25, 2014 2:04 pm

Dear All,

During recent tragic fire incident at Lotus business park in Mumbai, it came to light that "all fire fighting provisions were in place but no one knew how to use these". I am sure the same situation persists in most of (if not all) the projects of Neharpaar area.

The developers have made the fire fighting provisions just to meet the provisions and have done an eye wash to get occupation certificates. Even if the provisions are in place, there are no fire drills to educate residents on how to use these. Just think of those red pipes running through your apartment building and then imagine if these would be of any help/use to you in case of any unfortunate accident?

Please do not take chances, create awareness on this and do an audit of your apartment buildings to see that all provisions are in place as per national building code and you/your neighbours know exactly what to do if there is a fire accident.

During audits, you may find No pressure in fire hydrants, fire extinguishers not filled in(or refilling date not mentioned), Locked fire extinguishers and even locked hammers(which would be required to break glass during emergencies but do not serve any purpose if these are kept in locked).

This is like life insurance where we do not get returns but still feel responsible to pay premiums.

Anyone having knowledge on fire safety provisions is requested to guide us all on this further.

In most offices we have regular safety drills, but how often we do such activities at home, where we live with near and dear ones... I think this is a very important point Vineet raised...

Our safety is our own prime responsibility, Respective RWA's should raise awareness and ensure that regular exercises are undertaken to educate people on safety measures , routine checks, and use of equipments in the time of need

Hi Naveen Ji,

You may be right and that could be the reason why we do not take these things seriously. But as responsible citizens of the country we all must take onus and contribute to bring the change.

Its our social responsibility to:

-Learn how to use fire fighting equipment and take actions when there is a need.
-Learn to administer first aid to road accident victims and keep first aid kits in our cars.

These are small things and we hardly need to spend any time learning these but if we take pain to learn this and help building a good society, this is for sure that the life saved would be someone among us all.
