One more Faridabad-Sohna link
TOI, 5th Dec 2009
Gurgaon: With the forest department giving green signal for four-laning of the major link road from Ghata to Gurgaon-Faridabad road, the project is set to kick off by December-end. At a cost of about Rs 5 crore, the project will be completed soon. It will provide a link between Gurgaon-Faridabad and Gurgaon-Sohna roads.
Senior HUDA officials said a major portion of the 2.1km stretch fell under forest department and it took them two years to give the clearance. ‘‘Now that we have got clearance, we will start work without any further delay and finish it within a couple of months,’’ said a HUDA official.
The officials added that the widened road will come as a huge relief to the traffic coming from NH-8, Badshahpur, Sohna, Gurgaon-Sohna road and sectors 49, 50, 55, 56, 57. ‘‘Later, we also plan to connect it to the master road from Ghata to Badshahpur and the main road leading to CRPF shooting range at Kadarpur in view of the Games 2010,’’ said the official adding that it will save commuters a detour of about 16 kilometres. ‘‘Both Bristol Chowk and IFFCO Chowk are usually heavily congested. But with this, traffic will easily move from Gurgaon-Faridabad road to Gurgaon-Sohna road,’’ the official said.
Four-laning of the Gurgaon-Faridabad road is also on track with Reliance Infrastructure Ltd — the operator of the project — already having paid Rs 150 crore to Haryana government. The concession period of the project will be 17 years. The project, expected to be completed within two years, costs Rs 180 crore.
