Metro link to Faridabad on track

Postby webmaster » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:54 pm

Hitender Rao, Hindustan Times
Chandigarh, April 27, 2011

After the Metro revolutionised public transport in Gurgaon, it is the turn of the industrial city of Faridabad. An empowered committee on mass rapid transit system (MRTS) approved extension of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor to Faridabad on Tuesday. A meeting in this regard was held in N ew Delhi. The proposal will now be presented before a group of ministers (GoM) at the central government level for final clearance.

Under Phase 1 of the project, a completely elevated 13.875km long Metro track will become operational from Badarpur to YMCA Chowk in Faridabad within two years from the commissioning date. There will be nine stations on the route. Phase 2 will entail extension of the Metro link up to Ballabhagarh.

The project aims to ease traffic congestion and bring relief to lakhs of daily commuters from Faridabad.

Officials said the revised project cost has been estimated at Rs 2,533 crore and the Haryana government will pitch in about Rs 1,588 crore for the link. The central government will bear an expenditure of Rs 544 crore.

The state government will also bear the land cost of about 60-70 acres to be provided for the Metro corridor.

The cost of the rolling stock will be borne by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The state government’s share will be partially funded by Haryana Urban Development Authority and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The Haryana government had sent a formal proposal in April 2007 to extend the route from Badarpur till YMCA Chowk in Faridabad.

Haryana already has a Metro link from Jehangirpuri in Delhi to Gurgaon that started operations last year.

Wish that they could have included Greater Faridabad also in Phase-2. Remember reading a news article sometime back which said that Metrod will reach Greater Faridabad by 2031 and it was actually funny as well as disheartning to see a timeline of 20 yrs.

So, Metro to Faridabad is still NOT approved yet. Chief Minister of Haryana had committed in 2009 that Metro is approved. We can't trust any politicians.

Looks like things are moving in right direction. But, work can start only when Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) in Union Cabinet also approve this proposal. Sources are telling us that NHAI still has issues with Delhi Metro going through NH 2. Let us wait for final approval from EGoM where minister from NHAI can also be present

Re: Faridabad Metro alignment changed

Postby dheerajjain » Sun May 01, 2011 7:08 am

Looks like issues between NHAI and DMRC are getting resolved :) . Now, DMRC has agreed that Metro will come on left side on NH 2. Prabhu Razdan, Editor, Hindustan Times, Faridabad reports

Hindustan Times
April 30, 2011

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Faridabad ... 91787.aspx

The proposed Metro rail line in Faridabad will not come up in the middle of NH-2. It has been decided that the alignment will be changed to the left side of the highway, senior DMRC officials said. "We have changed the alignment and now we want the work to be started from left side of National Highw ay-2 from Badarpur," said Kumar Keshav, director projects, DMRC. Kumar was accompanying

DMRC chief E Sreedharan to Faridabad on Friday. "Our managing director has okayed the new alignment."

"The change will neither affect the NHAI work on widening of the national highway nor is it going to hamper our work, which we are expected to start in August-September."

Managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) E Sreedharan had inspected the proposed Metro alignment from Badarpur to Faridabad on Friday.

After visiting this alignment, the officials said work on 13.8- kilometre Metro line from Badarpur to Faridabad would start in August-September, 2011.

Officials said the DMRC had earlier proposed Metro alignment from Badarpur to Faridabad either through the middle of highway or on one side. They said cutting of trees and other works would start much before the actual work begins.

Great News indeed…
Major issues are getting resolved day by day…and coming as surprises to us..

Definitely, this will change the picture of Faridabad..and once this Metro line and NH-2 (6-Lane) comes into operational…Faridabad would be the best city to live in NCR region.

Currently it is also well connected to Delhi but in future it will come as best city after completion of all undergoing projects.

It will compete with other known cities and nearby area which are enchasing on Yamuna expressway to agra.

This NH-2 will provide the easy and short route to Agra after coming up of many flyovers, under pass etc.

So, Faridabad would be “Neighbors envy Ours Pride”

I don't want to start fresh arguments here. But, please think with a cool mind. ByPass road hurldes are getting removed by HUDA but hurdles by NHAI are not under its jurisdiction. We may give a suggestion to HUDA Administrator for Metro getting passed through ByPass road. This alignment will benefit all sectors of Faridabad. I already have an online petition signed by 239 people but target was 1000 people. If members agree, I can once again work on petition, achieve the target with support of forum members and then can be sent to concerned stakeholders. We already had lot of arguments here at:
