NEW DELHI: After missing many deadlines, the Connaught Place redevelopment project will complete only by mid-September as one of the transformers installed in the tunnel got damaged due to waterlogging near Panchkuian Road in Outer Circle. The matter will be placed before the council for revising the deadline, sources said.
Waterlogging was reported near G-Block in Outer Circle after the recent downpour. The water entered the tunnel because of which the transformer was damaged. “The work will get further delayed as the damaged transformer has to be replaced and the drains have to be de-silted to ensure there is no waterlogging in future,” Jalaj Srivastava, chairperson, NDMC.
Last week, Srivastava, who took charge as the NDMC chairperson in July end, reviewed the progress made on the project and had directed officials to submit a timeline for completion of work. “Engineers India Limited (EIL) has sought time till August end to clean up the area. I have asked EIL to give us a timeline on completion of projects. I’m hopeful that the entire work will be over by mid-September,” said Srivastava.
