GURGAON: The MCG carried out a demolition drive in Sushant Lok-I on Saturday, razing several encroachments near Vyapar Kendra. A motor garage, a hardware shop and a small cement godown near Marriott hotel were demolished. MCG commissioner Praveen Kumar himself oversaw the demolition drive and ordered encroachers to remove their belongings by the end of the day.
“These structures have been there for quite some time and the land on which they were constructed belongs to the municipal corporation. Despite having asked them many times to vacate the premises, they refused to do so, and as a last resort we had to demolish them. They had illegally occupied prime land and now that we have managed to get it back. We will fence it and use it for something,” said an official.
Officials said more such drives have been planned and FIRs against encroachers will be registered, if need arises. “We also appeal to residents to inform us if they come across any illegal structures or construction activity taking place in their area,” the official added.
