GURGAON: The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) last week initiated a survey to exact the status of green covers in their areas, which will help formulate a comprehensive green policy and track encroachments of greenbelts. The authority has also engaged private contractors to plant new trees on road dividers in all sectors.
Preliminary reports of the survey, pertaining to number of residential parks, are encouraging. These parks are maintained by local RWAs, with funds being sourced directly from HUDA. Plant cover in these parks is well maintained, said a HUDA official. However the real work needs to be done on road dividers. Due to repairs and construction work, trees on busy stretches like MG Road have either been cut down or decaying, he added.
According to officials, the survey will help record density of tree-cover in each sector and mark trees that need to be removed in other areas. “The survey will help on two counts – in recording number of trees in different sectors and tracking encroachments of green belts,” a senior HUDA official said.
