GURGAON: Residents of D-block of Mayfield Gardens have alleged that villagers have encroached on their land and erected a structure within the boundaries of the housing colony.

The residents’ welfare association has written to the police and the estate manager of the builder complaining about the encroachment bid by villagers of neighbouring Tigra. The land in question has been earmarked in the colony’s layout plan to build power infrastructure.

Three days ago, residents of the colony found illegal construction on a small piece of vacant land within the society’s boundary and managed to halt it with the help of the police. Some part of the illegal

structure was also demolished. “Later, villagers demolished a section of the boundary wall of our colony,” said Rajat Thukral, a resident.

The RWA wrote to Sadar Bazaar police seeking action against the encroachers but no action has been taken. “We then asked the builder to fence the area and erect a solid wall around the colony, but people from the village laid claim to the land that would be included within the boundary,” said Gaurav Pahawa, another resident.

The RWA, Pahawa said, has long been writing to the builder over issues of electricity, new transformers, sewerage, water and security. “Even though there has been no movement on these previous issues, we have been made to deal with encroachment also,” another resident added.

Ajay Shokeen, AGM, Mayfield project, said: “The land belongs to the licensee (us) and the land owning companies and the villagers are unnecessarily and illegally staking claim. We will approach the police and competent authority against any encroachers.”
