GURGAON: Residents of DLF IV are opposing the illegal construction of a seven-storey traffic police building in a residential area being constructed across one acre of land in DLF-IV for traffic management in Gurgaon. They are going to file a case in Punjab and Haryana high court very soon.

The residents allege that the building is being constructed without any permission from the senior town planner (STP), flouting all the pertinent rules and regulations.

“Haryana police are misusing the site to construct a seven-storey building, which is completely illegal. They have no official permission from HUDA. Only a two-and-a-half-storey building can be constructed on a one-acre plot. Police must protect law and not violate it. We are going to file a case in Punjab and Haryana high court in Chandigarh. Though this is a costly proposition residents wouldn’t mind spending their hard-earned money for a good cause,” said Brijmohan Mehta, president, Residents’ Welfare Association of Plot Holders DLF-IV.

Already the DLF-IV RWA had written to the Department of Town and Country Planning and Haryana Urban Development Authority to stop construction of the building in the residential area. “DLF Phase IV has 700 plots. The building is being constructed by Gurgaon Police in a corner close to the 18-metre road. The basement of the building is protruding into the roadside. As per the rules the front road should be 18 metres wide but right now in front of the building there is just a 12-metre-wide road,” said Vinod Chopra, secretary, RWA of Plot Holders DLF-IV

When contacted, police commissioner Alok Mittal said, “There were certain problems related to permission from the town planner. We are examining the matter. Now the construction work has been stopped and once we get all the clearance we will resume the construction work.”

But contrary to Mittal’s claim, the construction work was on in full swing when TOI visited the site. With construction workers busy at work on the site, there was hardly any suspension of construction.
