NOIDA: The federation of RWAs has threatened to go on an indefinite dharna for pushing forth their long-standing demand to convert land ownership in the city from ‘leasehold’ to ‘freehold’. The Federation of Noida RWAs (FONRWA), which claims to have support of numerous social organizations, has set January 15 as the date to beginthe dharna would commence.
Federation office bearers said they decided on the protest after Noida Authority issued lease cancellation notices to allottees who have built houses on plots in Sector 71. Cancellation notices were issued to allottees who have already built houses on the plots.
“The Authority resorts to lease cancellation if allottees violate any rule. Freehold status of land would put an end to ownership cancellation,” said NP Singh, president, FONRWA.
RWA members added that they have already informed the Authority chairman-cum-CEO about their plan. The federation said they have also written to UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to initiate the process of converting land into freehold. “We have received no reply to our letters. The protests would be called off only after the government intervenes to meet our demand,” Singh said.
