NOIDA: More than 60 representatives of over 25 societies, including the Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Association (FONRWA) and the Noida Entrepreneurs’ Association (NEA), staged a walk-out after waiting for an hour to meet Noida Authority officials on mixed land use. The Authority officials did not turn up for the meet.

The meeting, scheduled at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra, Sector 6, on Monday morning, saw agitated members of the federation waiting for over an hour for Authority officials. “No one came from the Authority despite prior fixing of the meeting. It is a very careless approach amounting to an insult to the federation members. The matter will now be taken up with chief minister Akhilesh Yadav,” said N P Singh, president, FONRWA.

Vipin Malhan of NEA maintained that the approach of the Authority smacked of utter lack of seriousness on the issue. “After waiting for an hour we walked out as people had taken valuable time off from their work and other engagements to attend the meet,” said Malhan.

The federation has been campaigning for mixed land use in both industrial and residential areas of the city. “We need immediate mixed land use status for certain residential sectors where there’s a requirement for a nursing home, postal services, grocery shop and a bank. Similarly, in industrial sectors like 9 and 10, there’s need for a hospital and shops that deal in raw materials related to their industry so that they don’t have to depend on other states for the same,” said Singh, who was present for the meeting.

Apart from this, the federation’s demand includes limiting of guest houses in residential sectors, based on area and population of the sectors. “We do not want Noida to become another Paharganj,” said Malhan.

But none of the issues could be taken up due to non-representation from the Noida Authority.

Later in the day, Authority OSD Manoj Rai called to placate the FONRWA representatives and assured them of addressing the issues at another meeting next week.
