GURGAON: Members of the Toll Hatao Sangharsh Samiti, in a meeting held on Sunday, strongly opposed the transfer of the financial burden of the removal of the Sirhaul toll plaza on to the Kherki Dhaula plaza, barely 10 days after the former was removed.
The samiti – which played an instrumental role in removing the Sirhaul toll plaza – held the meeting to create a blueprint for the strategy to push authorities to do away with the Kherki Dhaula toll plaza.
The members demanded that a screen be installed at the toll plaza to indicate the outstanding amount of the loan to be recovered from the toll collection. “Daily commuters should know how much more money is required before the cost of project is recovered,” said R S Rathi, vice-president of the samiti.
Members also expressed anguish over the lack of service lanes for local residents who don’t want to use the expressway. “So many years have passed since the expressway was thrown open to the public but till date, no service lane has been provided to the local commuters,” said Rathi.
Members also want a 50% waiver on toll for local commuters till the time the service lanes are not made available. “When someone from Gurgaon goes to Manesar, they are made to pay Rs 56, which is quite a high amount, especially for the local commuters,” said Col Kanwar Bhardwaj, chairman of the samiti.
The samiti will make a presentation and submit it to the NHAI.
