GURGAON: The MCG chief has asked the engineering department officials to crosscheck all the building plans sanctioned since the municipal corporation came into existence in 2008.
The move comes after it was brought to the commissioner’s notice that the plans of five buildings in Old City were passed by the corporation despite none of them meeting the prescribed norms.
“The commissioner has directed the engineering department officials to start demolition proceedings in case a building plan is found to have been passed in violation of the prescribed norms, an official said.
According to a source, plans of the five residential buildings in Chander Nagar were passed in 2010.
“The building plans were passed by the same MCG assistant engineer who cleared the plan of a New Colony building that partially belongs to the senior deputy mayor. The engineer was transferred long ago and no longer works with us,” said a source.
“The commissioner has asked the engineering department officials to check all the building plans issued by the corporation since it came into existence. He suspects several other building plans to have been cleared in a similar manner besides the five that came to his notice,” said an official.
Saying that there is a need to regulate the process of issuing building plans, MCG commissioner Praveen Kumar said, “Despite facing stiff resistance from a section of councilors, I’m trying to put my foot down and deal with the issue. Grey areas are being looked into.”
