CHANDIGARH: Taking up the issue of allotment of multiple plots in the defence category and under discretionary quota by HUDA, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday asked the urban development authority to submit the names of all allottees who were allegedly granted multiple plots. According to HUDA records, around 8,000 people have taken multiple plots under various categories in contravention of the norms.
Justice Daya Chaudhary also directed HUDA authorities to publish the names of people, who had taken more than one plot, in newspapers so that multiplicity of litigation can be stopped because of sale of disputed plots.
The HC also asked HUDA to reveal what steps it has taken against pwople who are named in FIRs citing the charge of owning multiple plots.
On the previous date of hearing, HUDA had produced a list stating that former Haryana CM Bhajan Lal’s nephew and former MLA Dura Ram was allotted four plots under the discretionary quota in the name of his daughters, son and wife in Panchkula, Hisar, Karnal and Faridabad. The list also mentioned that family members of former President Shankar Dyal Sharma were allotted more than one plot under the discretionary quota in various HUDA-developed sectors in Haryana.
The case had reached the HC after a serving Army colonel, who was booked for such fraud, sought a stay on his arrest. Following the intervention of the court, HUDA had suggested that an FIR be registered against all those who were allotted more than one plot under the defence quota.
HUDA had also placed a list before the HC, according to which several politicians, bureaucrats and other VVIPs of the state, including the former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana high court and Delhi high court, were allotted more than one plot in HUDA-developed sectors under the discretionary quota. According to HUDA records, one of the allottees under the discretionary quota had even mentioned his address as “C/O 10 Janpath Delhi”, which is the official residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
